The Orquestra do Algarve invites the audience to a concert full of discoveries, led by Bruno Borralhinho. While Poulenc serves as the guiding thread, through two scores of rare beauty and rarely heard, we also hear a curious Nocturne for winds that Mendelssohn composed in 1826 for the band residing in the Bad Doberan thermal springs, the manuscript of which was only rediscovered almost two hundred years later. This music forms the basis of another Mendelssohn composition, the Overture for Winds, Op. 24, which is presented here in its original form.
Also noteworthy is the national premiere of the work Dark with Excessive Bright by the American Missy Mazzoli, one of the most emerging and acclaimed composers to emerge in this quarter of the 21st century, and in which the soloist will be Bruno Carneiro, double bassist of our orchestra!
