Musikaliska Kvarteret presents the Swedish premiere of Missy Mazzoli’s Vespers for a New Dark Age – an evocative and innovative suite in eight movements for singers, chamber ensemble and electronics. The work was premiered at Carnegie Hall in New York in 2014 and now receives its first performance in the Nordic region.

Mazzoli’s Vespers for a New Dark Age is a dark and expressive interpretation of the classic Vespers, an evening prayer of central importance in several religions. The text, written by Matthew Zapruder , explores humanity’s relationship with technology, death, and the divine.

Missy Mazzoli is one of the few female composers to have been commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera in New York. She has also been composer in residence at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and her music has reached a wide audience through the acclaimed television series Mozart in the Jungle .

The concert revolves around the theme of evening music and offers a range of atmospheric works, including the Swedish premiere of Henryk Górecki’s Good Night and George Crumb’s Night Music II .
